Christmas Lights
Christmas Lights:
For this lesson, Kaitlyn started by teaching us about different Christmas lights around the world. Different ways they are designed and used. Then, we glued a piece of yarn to our paper to be the string for our lights. We traced a cutout of a light bulb throughout the string and we also traced eight bulbs on a separate piece of paper. We used a white oil pastel to trace around the bulbs on the string, then we spread out the color with our fingers to make it look like they were glowing. Then, we chose the colors of our lights based on questions she put on the board (i.e. purple if you have siblings, pink if you're an only child, favorite color, etc.) Once we had our colors, we colored our lightbulbs with oil pastels. Then we cut them out and glued them onto the outline on our big piece of paper.
Extension Activity: I think that you could create a writing activity based on the questions asked in this lesson. The students could write a short autobiography and attach it to the paper, so others could read it. In their autobiography, they would include the answers to the questions used to determine bulb color.
