Pinch Pot Snowman

Pinch Pot Snowman

Lesson: For this lesson, we started by reading a book about a snowman. Then, we started learning about clay and different clay artists. Next, we were all given a chunk of clay and we kneaded it to get rid of the air bubbles. We rolled it into a ball, then split the ball into three, creating varying sizes of pinch pots. We then scored the pots and used water to glue them together. We created two small holes on either side of the middle pot for our pipecleaner arms. Once the pots were connected and smoothed out, we painted the pots with white temper paint. Lastly, we put the pipecleaner arms on and drew on a face and buttons.
Extension Activity: This lesson is a lot on its own, but I think that, for an extension activity, students could write a story about their snowman. Possibly giving the snowman accessories to fit into the story. The students could write about an adventure the snowman had, or how the snowman was created.
